Greg Lacey

Greg Lacey is the Managing Director of FAR Consulting, and is notionally based in Manchester. Before setting up the company he was Ernst & Young’s leading forensic accountant in the North West, with a reputation for outstanding client service. Greg is a chartered accountant and law graduate. He has written articles on various forensic issues and is regularly asked for his opinion by both local and national publications.

Greg has represented many of his clients as an expert witness at mediations and prepared reports as an expert, a single joint expert or court appointed expert. He has experience of high profile cases involving contract and pricing disputes, business interruption matters, business valuation, product recalls, matrimonial disputes and fatal accidents, as well as acting for a number of high profile clients across a broad spectrum of sectors. Greg's recent cases include acting in an advisory role in a dispute regarding an offshore hedge fund valuation, the assessment of a multi million pound fatal accident claim, investigating allegations of fraud at a distance learning college and advising a number of leading UK retailers on business interruption claims stemming from the closure of an out of town retail park.

Phil Southall

Phil Southall is based in Birmingham. Upon qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in 1999 he specialised in forensic accounting, and over the next five years became responsible for managing significant commercial loss claims and "black-hole" investigations. In 2003 Phil joined a top 20 law firm, providing detailed forensic analysis and advice on settlement strategies.  Whilst in this post, Phil was involved with the design, development and rollout of their award winning approach to disputes, which includes the use of "decision analysis" in litigation.

Since joining FAR Consulting Phil has acted as expert in both civil and criminal matters, including contractual disputes, breach of warranty claims and completion accounts disputes, loss of earnings and profits claims, shareholder and matrimonial disputes, alleged fraud and confiscation proceedings, and he has also led investigations into multi-million pound black-holes.  Phil has significant experience of representing his clients in settlement meetings and mediations and has also given evidence in Court.

Simon Paley

Prior to joining FAR Consulting in 2007, Simon trained with Ernst & Young in their owner-managed businesses department, specialising in advising and preparing financial statements for growing companies in a number of industries.  Upon qualification, he moved to the forensic services team where he spent more than 10 years and became one of their most respected forensic accounting specialists in the Midlands.

Simon is experienced in commercial and contractual disputes, with a particular interest in insurance claims. He also has a broad experience advising clients on purchase price adjustment mechanisms, completion accounts, breach of warranty claims and other transaction-related disputes.  He has provided advisory and expert witness services to clients involved in disputes across a wide range of industries and has experience of most forms of dispute resolution.  Other areas of work that Simon regularly gets involved in include criminal matters (including confiscation proceedings) and matrimonial disputes.

Claire Hills BSc FCA Consultant

Claire is based in Cheshire and covers the North West. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 1994 and has over twelve years' experience as a forensic accountant with that firm gained in both the UK and overseas. During this time, Claire has advised public and private sector clients on a large number of high profile and sensitive matters involving the investigation of fraud and accounting manipulation. She also has experience in quantum in relation to commercial disputes and professional negligence matters.

Claire was seconded to the London Stock Exchange to undertake insider dealing, market abuse investigations. She has extensive experience of working with the UK Regulatory Authorities, for example, in undertaking regulatory reviews covering anti-money laundering at the request of the Financial Services Authority.

Scott Hunt Consultant

Scott is a member of the Institute of Private Investigation, although he began his career working agriculture as a farm business manager and after studying a Post graduate MSc he worked for a business consultancy firm in East Anglia. He then worked as a business development manger in London within the financial information sector where his clients were predominately FTSE 250 companies.

Since 2003 Scott has acted for a range of clients on a wide variety of matters concerning fraudulent trading and the research and investigation involved as a consequence. He has also represented private and corporate clients at home and abroad on varying matters including stock and debt recovery.
